Standards, skills and misconceptions

Align an activity to a K-12 standard or a durable skill, and give its AI common math misconceptions to listen for.

In an activity's How the AI helps, you can say what it aims at beyond your own goal: a K-12 standard or a durable skill, and for math, the misconceptions its AI should listen for. All of it is optional and comes from Learning Commons.

Under Standard or skill, choose K-12 standard for US state standards and Common Core, or Durable skill for collaboration, communication and critical thinking at any age.

A K-12 standard

Standards cover math, English language arts, science and social studies.

  1. Say where. Choose your State (or Common Core (Multi-State)), a Subject and a Grade.
  2. Search. Type words, or a code such as 4.OA.A.3, and press Search.
  3. Pick one. It comes with what It breaks into and the Standards before it, for the AI to go back to.
  4. Untick what doesn't fit. Untick what this activity doesn't reach.

A durable skill

Durable skills come from the Carnegie Skills Progressions. Each indicator, such as "Check in and circle back with group progress", grows through four levels: Exploring, Analyzing, Integrating and Extending.

Choose the Level learners work toward, then search with words like evidence or feedback. The AI reads what a learner does At this level, and The level before to go back to.

Either way, what you choose is kept in the activity as it was, with its CC BY 4.0 attribution. Later changes at Learning Commons don't change what your learners' AI was given.

Misconceptions to listen for

For math, Misconceptions to listen for suggests misconceptions from Eedi's graph, through Learning Commons: at once for a math standard, or, with only a goal, from Teaching math? Find misconceptions to listen for.

Each suggestion is a math skill whose words match the standard or goal, with the misconceptions that hinder it; you can also search with your own words. Tick up to eight; nothing is ticked for you. The agent, and a VETTING reviewer, get them as a short list.

  • How the AI helps: the goal, how far the AI may go, and a section's own support.
  • Learning Commons: where standards, skills and misconceptions come from, and their license.
